This is one of those books that still haunts me years after I read it. I own it, but can't bring myself to re-read it because it is almost too powerful in a way. The relationship between Nell and Sula reminds me of one I had with a friend. I think we've all probably had a Sula in our lives, someone who comes in and wrecks havoc, but loves us more firecely than we ever imagined someone could.
After I watched the movie I was always interested in reading the novel upon which the movie is based on and so I did this time. As far as the movie was presented heaven was more colorful and fantasy rich and most of the movie is about Susie's afterlife up there, while in the book shows more concentration on the family and friends Susie left behind and life is shown from a 3rd person view. It was good, though I expected a little more at the end.
This helps. It really does.
An amazing autobiograpy, which reads more like fiction. The story of an Australian bank robber who escapes to India and finds himself in the thick of the Mumbai criminal underworld. It's a really fast-paced, if sometimes uncomfortable read and I kept having to remind myself that it was a true story.
