A nice read. At first I only found that Braden's seducing a virgin don't make him much better than her other suitor. Lucky for him the rest of the story shows him in better light.

her writing: so beautiful. the history: so interesting. the story: often so oogy. as in, yucky feeking. it was beautiful, but i dont think i would recommend it.

I really wanted to enjoy this book…I did. I read the synopsis and it sounded really cool and even though I wasn’t really impressed by her other novels (like the body finder) I was expecting this one to be good. But unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. I know this was classified as dystopia and while it does have some elements of that (oppression, social control etc.), mainly it read like a fantasy novel which was probably from the use of kings and queens…which sorry, as an urban studies major who studies cities, I can imagine many ways our cities and government will go in the future but going back to having kings and queens isn’t one of them. It just seems so old which set the novel back instead of in the future where it was suppose to be. The world building was also…nonexistent. Very big let down. The characters were all utterly boring. I mean what was Charlie’s personality like? I really couldn’t tell you, the only redeeming quality she had was how much she loved her sister. And AGAIN, another story about two people who fall in love but for unexplainable reasons…why did Max like her so much? Again, I couldn’t tell you. I didn’t realize until going on goodreads that this novel wasn’t a stand-alone…the ending sure felt like it didn’t need more. I don’t think I’ll read the rest of this series.

I became John Green's fan gurl when I sat on a panel with him about fiction saving our sanity in Orlando, Florida last July. He is the real deal. We even went to harry Potter world in a group together, and I have never seen a writer treated like a rock star. (Ahem, writers should get the same respect - just sayin'.) Anyway, another confession here - I had never read one of his books! I am so glad I read this one: I loved this book. LOVED it! His dialogue is absolutely amazing. (Dialogue is the hardest for me.) And I love his nerdy intellectualism and his theosophical bent. I highly recommend this book to EVERYBODY.
