Too much political intrigue.....
I got this as an incredibly cheap kindle book, and I am surprised these Boxcar Children mysteries are not bad. This one even teaches a bit about legendary lake creatures (Loch Ness and Lake Champlain.) This is good for early elementary, but an older kid who finds reading to be a challenge would enjoy it, too.
I think I read this book for the first time at the age of 9 or so. Then, I was probably too proud of myself for reading such a grown up book for actually understanding the content! (At least that's what I tell myself now...) But since then I've read and reread the book over 20 times, and I've never gotten tired of it. Even if I know exactly what is going to happen next, Austen's story and writing is so much fun to read. Almost every line is a joke or poke or stab at some character or at society. I love it!
enjoyable read; amazing & nearly disturbing parallels to everything going on in america today; made me want to read more on the other braintrusters and fdr's cabinet members. i have more respect for alter now & have no idea how he found time to write this book and keep his day job - so much research had to go into this.
What can I say! I loved it! I read it 3 times.
KEEP IT MOVING!!!
A series of shorter stories about individual characters, providing both some plot and some flavor.
