Recently in our house there's been a confluence of books about Japanese internment during WWII, and this time I guess it was my turn to read one. This book was OK, but it never really seemed like it was happening to real people. I loved the character of Sheldon, probably because I knew men like him when I was young. And I think the immigrant experience was well related in the story. To answer a question from another reviewer, Henry was born in America, but grew up speaking only Chinese and had to learn English in school, so he was not a native English speaker and as such had a bit of an accent.

** spoiler alert ** What really kept me going in this series was the fact that my copy of the first book contained the first chapter of the second book, and once I read it, it left me on a cliffhanger, and I had to go get New Moon the next day. The first chapter ends with something to the effect of "I looked up into the eyes of the six suddenly ravenous vampires..." New Moon keeps you captivated, though, when Edward decides to leave Bella because he thinks that's what's best for her, and then also when she discovers Jacob is a werewolf. Overall I think this is my second favorite of the series.
