Quick, easy read. Loved the flashbacks... and it addresses a topic that many people from my generation probably know little about.
I'm not the biggest fan of reading memoirs, but a friend of mine recommended this book. At first, the book was a little flashy, a little pretentious, for me. But the further into it I got, the more I couldn't put it down. At times funny, at times disturbing and at times depressing, it was all in all an entertaining, tragic and interesting book. Why people compare Burroughs to David Sedaris is beyond me. In my opinion, Sedaris is awful and horribly unfunny. Burroughs somehow managed to turn his tragic and shocking childhood into a funny story. Though at times, the fluidity from chapter to chapter was a bit confusing. At the end of one chapter he hates the 30-something year old pervo, then at the start of the next he loves him. Wha? Did I miss something? And if his mom wasn't actually crazy, what WAS her deal? Everything else was great for me. I'd definitely recommend this book to other people.
