This is a charming little recreational read. If I were still a high school librarian, this would be one I would recommend to some of my female students. I enjoyed this author's writing, and even though the story was light and predictable, it also had an underlying message about what it's like to be different and to be an outsider. Emily and Julia are both in Mullaby for different reasons, Emily to live with a grandfather she has never met, and Julia to make enough profit from her father's restaurant to return to what she thinks is a happier life far from there. Of course there are love opportunities for both of them.
