An interesting book - I have to say it's different from anything else I've read. It has elements of mystery, humor and romance (although not your typical romantic novel escapades by a longshot). It took a while for me to get into, but once I did, I enjoyed it.

I only wish that I had come up with this story first. Great plot idea - writing is not up to par though. "I love you more", "No Edward, I love you more." "Edward is so beautiful - like a marble Adonis, I don't care that he's a vampire". Etc. Etc. "I'm so ugly, he's so beautiful" Etc.

I LOVE, LOVE this book. It is a coming of age story about four girls at a fictional Miss Porters in the 1960's. It is chock full of deb balls and all things WASPY. If you ever attended boarding school (or know people who did) you will adore.

I liked this book, but there was just something missing for me. Something about the characters....I felt the older Jacob character was developed enough for me to care about him. The others, not so much. I could appreciate the parallel to the Jacob story in the Bible, and that was was food for a lot of thought; something to explore further. But overall, something was just missing....I wish I could put it into words, but I am never very good at doing that. It has to do with the characters. We did get to know about their histories and who they were and why, but I would have liked even more character development, I guess. I will say after I read the Author's Note at the end of the book, I appreciated the whole story on a whole different level, though. In fact, the Author's Note was the best part of the book for me...just finding out where she got her ideas, and then the stuff about Thomas Edison...I had no idea about all that. That was fascinating, and yet disturbing to me.
