So far the book is holding my interest, seems well-researched and doing a good job of separating fact from fiction (as much as is possible). The odd thing is we never know where Cleopatra was actually beautiful - but her story is compelling. It veers off into detail at times but all in all very readable. It's interesting to compare Cleopatra's depiction by Shakespeare, the movies and this book. She was smart, a woman and a clear-eyed strategist. Her downfall, and subsequent suicide, was honorable. To paraphrase a quote "Nothing in her life became her like the leaving it."

very intersting addition to the mercedes thompson series, mercedes and adam have gotten married and are going for a little bit of honeymoon action. camping along a river in the beautiful northwest, they never really have a chance to enjoy it, almost immediately strange things begin to happen, mercy has nightmares that turn out to be true, Coyote shows up again, and mercy might just have met her father, or not, or met him twice depends on what you're asking. lots of action, fast paced plot, great new tidbits for the series to munch on. love this series

I have trouble deciding between 4 stars and 5. Would this book have been more amazing if I hadn't read the entire thing in one day? Or does the fact that I read it so fast add to its score? I don't know. I know I was really, really enjoying it until I finished it around midnight and then started to get concerned about the afterlife. I think I like it. It can be a nice fiction book and I don't have to worry about dead people being confined to their cemeteries or figuring out how to get married in Dad's.

Honest and satisfying, avoids sentiment, homily and backstory.
