Eh. It was a good reminder to slow down, but there wasn't anything new for me.
So I have a story about this guy. I first read one of his poems in Harper's and I was intrigued by the playfulness in his poem. So I went out and started getting his books and was impressed by the balance he strikes between accessibility and depth. So, my friend and I went to see him read at Mira Costa college, and when we walked into the gymnasium where he was reading, we were taken aback by the audience's extreme reactions to his reading the punch lines. They were LOL'ing all over the place, slapping their knees, and really just one shot of whiskey away from loud guffawing. It was really disturbing, cuz my experience with his poetry was more way-deep-internal-chuckling, and this gymnasium pep-rally thing kind of bothered me. Nevertheless, he's Fantastic. I am the bread and you are the knife. Wait, no you're the bread, and I'm the wine. Wait...no, hold on, let me try again.
