fedorina

This one is really between 3 and 4 stars. Sad and haunting.

First novel I've read by Andi Marquette, and definitely not the last. It's refreshingly well written, everything just seems to work here. K.C. Fontero, sociologist with a focus on white supremacy groups, is contacted by her ex-girlfriend to help her find her younger sister, Megan, who may have be caught up in a neo-Nazi group. The background of K.C. and Melissa's relationship works well to tell us more about K.C. and who she is. The neo-Nazi storyline makes for an interesting plot, creepy definitely, but good as K.C finds out that Megan is held against her will. There's romance as well which illustrates perfectly how hard it can be to move on, the conflicts K.C. has mostly with herself are believable and endearing. The cast of characters and the descriptions of Albuquerque and the surrounding area make me want to pack my things and move there. All the different parts of this story form a whole that's well worth reading and entertaining, moving, funny, page-turning suspenseful all rolled into one.
