This was a great book set in a dystopian future where a significant portion of the world's population is competing to win an online virtual reality contest; and oddly enough, I really couldn't put it down. I'm not a video-game person at all, but this book was still very interesting (maybe this was partially due to the 80's pop culture references). The only draw-back, is that the book was a little too predictable.
A supa dupa read, enjoyed it far more than the first one in the trilogy. Action packed, throw in a bit of angst, lust, fondling, a couple of hot guys, a baddie Angel father and you have yourself a recipe for success. My only gripe - I hate the front cover, they just do not grab me in the same way the characters within the book do.
Awesome, awesome book -- my favorite of his.
Well worth reading, an intriguing story of survival and the human spirit. I appreciate that the author included a chapter detailing how the experience shaped the men for the remainder of their lives (all were under 30 at the time of the sinking). I was amazed that all of the men returned to whaling shortly after their rescue.
i gave up less than 50 pages in. it's one of those things, like The Big Lebowski, that everyone gets except me. I could read it if I tried, but I don't have that sort of willpower right now!
