After chasing a frightened mutt to Alaska, Elena and Clay find a group of unfamiliar werewolves causing trouble. Elena's leadership skills are tested when the mission stirs up both issues from her past and fears for her family's future. I admit it, I was worried about this one. I didn't like the two previous books much, and for reasons beyond just not connecting with Hope as a character. So Frostbitten was a pleasant surprise. There's a solid mix of action, mystery, and character development, and the mystery aspects of the story are nicely tied together and manage a few surprises. I can't remember the last time that a series I felt was going downhill managed to make me optimistic for its future, so finishing this one made me happy.
