After all the awards, and the fact that Patti is a poet, I was expecting to be blown away by the language as well as the story. But though I plowed through this book in a matter of days, it seemed more a string of stories and anecdotes about the movers and shakers of the arts scene. Fascinating to get some glimpses into Allen Ginsburg, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, etc. as people and not just icons, and I definitely want to delve more deeply into Patti and Robert's work now that I have some real context.

I'd give it 3.5 if I could. It drew me in, and was a quirky, unusual and dark tale.
