Only 3 stars simply because the story did not appeal. This book is no less well written than any of the others in the series.
This book was a sweet little romance set in the late 1800s. It was a pleasant read. There were a couple of things that grated on my nerves. The heroine behaves a little over-the-top, yelling at her love interest, which would be appropriate in a modern setting, but since we are to believe that this is in the 19th century, I think a sweet Christian girl would behave a little more moderately, even one as independent as this young lady. Still, the novel had some strong points. The author handles the balance between a love of beauty and being too vain in a wonderful manner.
Funny in parts, tragic everywhere else. If even half of this memoir is true, it is amazing Augusten Burroughs can function in society. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. A quick read, though deeply disturbing and convoluted.
