probably tied with grapes of wrath for my favorite steinbeck book
Atwood is a first-rate novelist and writer. Her prose is compelling and lyrical but her subject matter is invariably dark and cynical. SHe's similar to Doris Lessing in her negativity. Oryx and Crake is a good story and I looked forward to each "reading" session (I listened to this book on Audible). The ending left the reader to decide if it ended positively or negatively. The overall tone of the book was a dismal assessment of the intersection of human foibles at the intersection of the powerful technologies available to us. Atwood looks at humans as perpetual victims of Murphy's Law. Having said that, it is in the end a cautionary tale about the dangers of the science of mankind in the hands of unstable minds. If you like Cormac McCarthy and Doris Lessing, you'll love Margaret Atwood's 'Oryx & Crake.
Even though James Frey is a liar, this is still a good read. Just don't eat and read it at the same time. :o)
