I think this book could be for and against children reading, becuase I say children need to know about pass history events; yet, some parents probably wouldn't like the fact their children are being exposed to violence. This book tells and discribes what African Americans went through in the pass during the time of slavery and freedom. It tends to go into details at certain points but it also gives the true reality of what the whites were like back then. I do think that children should know at lease the basics of reality, that not all is good in this world. Maybe it could change the ways of thinking; therefore, increase their ablity to want to try harder or learn more on history literature or facts.

Excellent book which reminds me greatly of Orwell and Huxley. Fascinatingly written. Offers an interesting perspective on its subject matter. Good for group reads and discussion.
