This piece of "historical fiction" has more in common with a trashy romance novel than the time period it was supposed to have been set in. While I can appreciate the attempt at sharing the frustrations of our often forgotten elderly, the entirely predictable plot and lack of character development topped off with the various lude sexual encounters left me disappointed. The most endearing part of the book was not even written by the author. There actually was, at some point, an elephant that would pull up its stake, go steal lemonade, and then re-stake itself where it belonged. Makes me wish I spent my time reading a non-fiction work circus history instead of wasting my time on this.

Have it, just have to read it.
