Scott Pilgrim is joy. This is now my favorite graphic novel. It's absurd, but the absurdity sneaks up on you in a sea of mundanity, and even the weirdest shit seems commonplace. It's a book about slackerdom, love, rock, and living life as if inside a video game. This is some of the most unforced storytelling I've ever read. Everything happens, no matter how odd, at a pace and in a place that seems inevitable. I don't know how O'Malley does it, but he should be commended. It is possessed of an overall feeling of rightness.

Though I went on to read My Antonia and enjoyed it, I preferred O Pioneers.
