I loved the parents in this. The story of Ashima suddenly transported from Bengal to Massachussetts in a (happy) arranged marriage is fascinating. I think it would have been a 5-star read for me if it had focused more on Ashima and Ashoke and less on their son, Gogol.

Actually I "read" this one via audio book. It was interesting to find out the author only "read" his own books via audio books. I find the book very dark and not much fun. It has enough suspense so I kept on until the end but came away feeling neither enlightened no entertained. There was constant pressure all the time with very little if any relief and a time to catch one's breath. I may read another simply because I have the audio book but I would never actually sit down and read it.
