The power of this book lies in how lessons learned about eels, owls, and dolphins can teach us more about the function of the the human brain/behavior.

I thoroughly enjoyed Gilbert's journey across the world, and into her heart and soul. While the story of her experience abroad was almost too ideal (the only true pitfall encountered was a urinary tract infection after a prolonged evening of passion with a Brazilian lover), and maddeningly frustrating to the average "Jane" who can only dream of taking a year off from work to travel the continents, it was a joy to vicariously experience the journey.
