More meta than meat, How To Live Safely In A Science Fictional Universe can't quite decide if it's magical realism, a physics primer for dummies, or a dissection of crumbling human relationships. The main character (the author himself) isn't really a likable character--but he knows that. He's cool with that. Until he isn't any more. On the way to that realization, we're treated to dark humor, time-travel science lite, and a few really usable real-world lessons. (Did you know that if you see yourself coming out of a time machine, you should run? Just drop everything and run? File that one away for future reference, OK?) Meh. Cool cover, though.
