Holden says "goddamn" a lot. Like 625 times. No really. Close your eyes and flip to any given page in the book. You will almost certainly see "goddamn" or "damn" at least once on the page. Holden is a rich, privileged kid. He gets high notch education but doesn't care about school. He has no friends (they're all phonies). Everyone is a phony to him (except his sister and deceased brother). Holden calls up old acquaintances to chat, then insults them when they get together. Holden is just apathetic and irritating. He is more than just angsty. This is regarded as a coming of age novel, but Holden never comes to age.
