This is masterful writing, wonderfully-rounded characterisation, huge scope and tied together with a massive emotional kicker of a conclusion. Took me ages to read it, but totally rewarding experience.

OK -- this book was NOTHING like the Ya-Ya Sisterhood -- some really serious issues were the focus of this book including alcoholism and incest. I could have never guessed that one after reading the first book. The two didn't even seem connected -- the characters had the same names but totally different personas...
