I love the movie and love Bret Easton Ellis' other work, so I was excited to read it. It's very well written and full of extraordinary detail, but I can't bring myself to give it more than 3 stars simply because it is so, SO disturbing that I literally had to put it down for weeks at a time to let myself recover. I'm no lightweight, and I like edgy books, but I literally could not stomach this at times. Seriously, you guys. Sometimes I get flashbacks and I literally SHUDDER at the memories of passages from this book. So if you are looking for a good way to be made to feel phsyically ill, are a twisted masochist who appreciates good literature, or simply have ever wondered EXACTLY what a rotting, mutilated corpse looks, smells, and tastes like with a hamster habitrail shoved through it, look no further!
