Islam Hendy Hendy itibaren Texas
WOW. If I could rate this book higher, I would. I read some of the other reviews on Goodreads before I started the book and kept waiting for it to drop the bomb and get really political. The first 2/3rds of the book was not this way. Instead, it was a poignant memoir and entirely fascinating to me and I believe would also be to anyone who is even remotely interested in the relationship between Islam and women, especially in Africa. I could not put this book down. The last 1/3 of it did become political, but I thought that it was a natural progression because she gets involved in politics and so avoiding her ideas and what she did would have been unnatural. Ayaan Hirsi Ali presented many ideas that were completely new to me that I would have never considered and that have provoked a total reorganization of thought with regards to Islam and also cultural relativism. Well worth the time to read. I'm pretty broke and live in a tiny apartment, so I have to be extremely choosy about what books I actually buy. I checked this book out from the library and it is a true keeper. I'll be buying it the next time I go out to a bookstore.
