Returning to this after listening to In our Time about the Oresteia last night: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/i...
Loved it. I'm glad the author has gone back to her original writing style in the first 3 Kushiel novels. I loved Phedre and Josceline and their story pluss all the characters they were involved with made those books stunningly good. In the second three novels, I was less intrigued. Imriel was a favourite but he bacame whiney and annoying. This novels plot had me page-turning all the way through. This was many adventures in one novel. Can't wait to read the next part.
I had heard this was a story about war, but it was much more than that. The plot was powerful and the characters were well developed. The author did a great job of building compassion and heart into a story centered on the war. I definitely recommend this book.
