I thought this was a very interesting book. I liked the way it described the everyday life of the people in the Lacks family in common language, it really gave a gritty reality to their lives. I was skeptical to read non-fiction (I read enough of that with my work), but the writing was terrifically detailed and personal that made it a real pleasure to read. As a scientist, I think Skloot did a fantastic job of describing the details of the science so that it was easily understandable at at the same time didn't lose its scientific credibility. It made me think hard about how we treat the informed consent process in my own studies and gives me a better appreciation for the perspective of the subjects. Certainly was shocked to read about the amount of tissue that gets stored and used without consent during everyday medical procedures, since we are so sensitive to this issue in research. I highly recommend this book.
