I loved this book. A group of Men from the Oregon wilderness are forced to build a ship to get into the outside world from the Tillamook bay. The passion of building the ship consumes them, they eat, breath and dream this ship, treating it like their own child: fighting over washing it, sanding it, painting it. "And stupid enough not to realize that there is no crature on the face of the earth so dangerous as a man who is searching for perfection."
Absolutely hilarious. The writing is sarcastic, hysterical and totally true. I laughed so hard while reading this. I have never, ever wondered what takes place in a restaurant, other than I eat there. Now I have an idea and I'll be wondering each time I go out to eat...
The story about Halloween makes it worth the price alone. Sedaris is an incredibly funny writer but for some reason I didn't love this one as much as I"ve loved his other books. Part of this may be that I've heard him do readings and once you've heard him *perform* his work it's hard to get the same enjoyment out of reading it your own boring self. Maybe check it out on audio???
