Sparse use of language provides sufficient ambiguity to insulate the reader from the overwhelmingly cruel reality of war. While the meager prose provides comfortable (necessary?) distance between the reader and the subject, I feel that the lack of vibrance prevented me from becoming totally engaged in the work. Also enjoyed: Undeniable rhythm and the last few sentences. Didn't enjoy: Too happy of an ending.
