lots of fun because a lot of it is centered around Philadelphia, and it's always great to read what you know about. also exceedingly well written, if not a little bizarre at times

Since I work in a public library, and am a librarian, I probably judged this book with a different lens than the average reader. While the book is enjoyable, the regular patrons he described could be at any public library, big or small, in the US. Douglas comes off to me as a bit preachy and cocky, he obviously thinks himself to be far superior to his coworkers, as well as his patrons (although he seems to have slightly more respect for his patrons). If you think you might be interested in more of the inner workings of a public library, than read this book, however realize that there is MUCH more to the profession of librarianship and the institution of libraries than Douglas is able to include.
