I went to visit my sister, and she gave me a stack of books my mother had loaned her after reading them for her (my mother's) book club. As such, they are all (so far) enjoyable and perhaps worthwhile, but mostly easy to read, which is nice. I get the enjoyment of reading without the stuggle of slogging through something more academic. I think the author gets points for leaving him alone at the end rather than with one of his loves. It would have been easier/happier/warmfuzzier to do the opposite, so go Jhumpa on that count. Oh wait, did I just give something away? No, I think not, because the ending isn't the point.

My favorite Palahniuk book, definitely his most under-rated. However... I did read it a long time ago and my taste in authors has changed since. If I read it now? I'd probably do what I did with Diary... get 40 pages into it, decide it was trying too hard and never pick it up again.
