Excellent. Inspiring. A must read for those interested in the arts, science, literature and medicine.
"You should know better, a big lad like you." ----- Part of me was thinking, I really should think more about the consequences of my actions. Then this wouldn't happen to me. But another part of me was thinking, This is good. ----- That is exactly the wrong way round. It's supposed to be more fun being a grown-up. That's why I swapped being a kid for being a dad. What's the point in forfeiting your childhood if all you get for it is filling in forms? ----- Liam is a pretty typical twelve-year-old in many ways. He loves ice cream and video games and dreams of being an astronaut. But he's in the Gifted and Talented program, so he has lots of information floating around in his brain. And he's over six feet tall and shaving. Abnormally large for his age. So he often gets mistaken for an adult, and has even played a game with a friend where they pretend to be father and daughter. He almost got to test drive a Porsche that way, until his dad caught him at the last second. Then one day his phone company mistakes him for his dad and he wins a trip with his child to an exclusive first ride on an awesome new thrill ride at a new theme park in China. He convinces his friend to play daughter one more time, comes up with a cover story for their parents, and gets whisked away in first a limo and then a private jet. Once in China they learn the thrill ride is an actual rocket trip to space, and Liam ends up as the only "adult" chaperon on board for a group of kids his age. And, of course, the trip doesn't go as planned, so they might end up drifting off into space forever.
