Interesting read - haven't read his others but this book made me re-think lots of assumptions. Author presents some strong evidence for re-looking at success. Might have to read his others...

I think I have a better understanding of how difficult it must be to leave a isolated polygamist compound and join the larger society that they know nothing about after reading this book. They know *nothing* about the outside world except that their authority figures say it's dangerous and evil, and that if they choose to leave anyway they'll be cut off from their family and everyone they've ever known. And mostly the only real chance they have of escaping is before they have children, which means they're only thirteen or fourteen years old. But I still don't understand those who choose to stay. Of course, almost by definition a young woman or older girl who accepts without question or reluctance that her duty is to marry the older man the 'Prophet' chooses, do her assigned chores, and produce as many children as possible wouldn't have the ability of inclination to write a book for anyone outside that mindset to understand. If the author's purpose was to make polygamy more sympathetic, she failed with me. I don't have any non-religious objections to the basic idea between *informed consenting adults*.
