Water for Elephants was a tale about a man's life, split between his youth and his very old age. He joins the circus after his parents die, and is pulled into the topsy-turvy world which goes with it. I really love when books have there own distinct feel, almost like a soul- and this is definitely one of those. Another cool feature is that the author inserted tons of old photos from the Ringling circus. Also, it has something which distinguishes it from being just good into something that is great- an awesome ending!
