I would put this at 3 1/2 stars. I liked the depression era circus setting in the story. Liked the main character, Jacob,and loved the elephant, Rosie. The author made a her true character with a definative personality. I think Marlena was too damsel in distress for my taste. How many times did she hold her hand over her mouth? The secondary characters were interesting as well. I would have liked to have met more of the circus performers in the story, but liked the few we did meet. The author did a nice job balancing details while still moving the plot along. A good read. Upon rereading for my other book club, I still feel about the same rating-wise. I do want to add that I really enjoyed the circus photos in the book and the fact that this was a breeze to read!

The ending is majorly disappointing.
