I am a huge fan of Paul Zindel. I absolutely loved him when I was a teen, and I loved rereading the Pigman a few years ago. I can't remember if I read Confessions when I was younger. I must admit this wasn't my favorite book. I liked the voice (he always nails the young male voice) and the premise, but the middle dragged for me and I found the end disappointing.
This is the third book in the original Rainbow Magic series by the group of authors who go by the pseudonym Daisy Meadows. This series is the first of the many (about 125!) books in the Rainbow Magic series (yes, it confused me at first, too.) In any case, I'm not sure why we waited so long to read these original books, as now our oldest is finally reading about how Rachel and Kirsty got together with the fairies in the first place. Our oldest took a little break from fairies, but is getting into this series in earnest now. She tears through these books and I am now picking up an entire series at a time, so she can have enough books until we go to the library again. Dec 2011 update: our youngest is now immersing herself in this series and is reading them very quickly, too. As inane as I thought they were, I love that this series is making readers of our girls. Hooray!
I wholeheartedly endorse all of the scientific and statistical arguments put forth by Billy Beane, Bill James, Scott Hatteberg (!), and all the other "characters" in the book... I just didn't find it all that compelling of a read.
