This was actually my first exposure to Murakami (which may explain the high rating). There aren't too many writers out there (to my knowledge) that can cleverly pull off a story dealing with loneliness and unrequited feelings in a straight forward fashion; this totally hits it. Somewhat of a mystery and perfect for those late nights during the weekend when your scratchy records and dinner for one were part of the agenda.

Other than the oddly large number of cartoons referred to but not shown it was an interesting read.
