I really enjoyed the plot, especially the way it tied together different threads from Mercy's backstory. But the story didn't always flow well for me. The second issue has a really odd structure that might have been more successful if it was handled better. But there's a time jump followed by a flashback, and there weren't enough visual cues to make that obvious. It was so jarring that I started to think that I'd gotten a copy that was bound with missing or out of order pages. I couldn't relax back into the story until I'd skimmed forward to make sure that wasn't the case. Unfortunately, the quality of the art was inconsistent. Some of the panels and pages were fantastic, others were too vague, didn't fit the flow of the story, or had goofy stylistic choices (like scene where two characters had no irises). For example, it took me about 5 minutes to figure out that the gold blob at the end was supposed to be Mercy's sheep. And some of the scenes with a naked post-change Mercy had really awkward anatomy issues, including a few poses that make it look as if the poor woman had fake Barbie boobs (perfectly round, with no nipples).
