One of those books that adds to you, makes you more whole so you can be broken apart and assembled rounder. I will miss reading it.
I was completely enthralled with the first half of the novel but was ultimately disappointed. It was a great premise poorly realized. Ishiguro's writing is beautiful as always, though.
I was reluctant to read this book, as the amnesia concept was a bit too gimmicky. Not just "Memento", but "Day Break", "Life on Mars", "Source Code", all of those time travel movies ("Back to the Future" anyone?) -- all have some interplay between knowing/forgetting the future and trying to change it. That said, I was immediately captivated anyway. I found Christine compelling, the journal idea a different twist on what I'd seen previously, and the I had a hard time putting it down. Yes, it fell apart at the end (mysteries usually do), and yes, you had to suspend disbelief about the medical aspect, but I had a lot of fun.
