First off I found it very interesting (and sad) that the author died before the book was published. It is translated from the Swedish. I thought it had great characters, an interesting locale, good story and a good ending (which is hard to find!). I really enjoyed it!

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE movie was way better than book
