Hmm. I'm giving this 2 stars based on my personal enjoyment of the book, but I do applaud it and think it is a valuable book for teens, and especially could be useful for class discussions of race and poverty and crime. But as an adult reading it I had trouble getting into it and didn't really like the screenplay/diary format. Shrug!
