Another book I could not put down. I chose my recuperation books well as I seem to be reading a book a day this week as they are all fabby page turners which you cannot put down. This is the 2nd book I have read which is set if Afghanistan. This book made you realise just how similar life was for the richer Afghans before the Russians rolled in in the 1970s. The main character Amar is a character who goes through life with a huge guilt comlex from attrocities he witnessed but did not prevent as a child. His whole life shaped by these events. It was quite a harrowing and sad read in places but I found it to be fascinating and easy to read - a few tears were shed and the end was not as happy as I thought it might have been - but I suppose that makes it even more real.
