In Lunch, we find a hungry little mouse with a mighty appetite. The story contains full-page illustrations. Bold colors and large print take us through his gastronomic trip to satisfy his hunger. The smorgasbord of fruits and vegetables that the mouse eats introduce concepts of colors and tastes in foods to the young reader. The text is simple and easy to follow, while being descriptive enough of the actions illustrated on the pages. The introduction of each vegetable and fruit takes place on the right-hand page before its illustration which allows children to guess what the following food item will be, thus, making this a great storytime book that will keep young readers engaged.

Troost writes a remarkably accurate account of his life on the Pacific atoll Tarwa, in the nation of Kiribati. It resonated so much with my own experience, and I'm glad to have read it after my return. I think if I read it while I was on Jaluit, I wouldn't fully appreciate his stories. If you substitute "Jaluit" for "Tarwa," and "ri-Majel" for "I-Kiribati," you've basically got the story of my year in the Marshall Islands... *** A dog was in urgent pursuit of five squealing piglets. Go dog (32). Tarwa has a way of shattering professional ambitions. Of course, my professional ambitions could have been shattered by a hummingbird's feather. Nevertheless, when your world is reduced to a sliver of land smack-dab in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, your aspirations tend to change. Once, I wanted to be a foreign correspondent for The New York Times. Now, I aspired to open a coconut with the same panache as the I-Kiribati (256).
