En iyi bit, Raven'ın piyasaya sürülmesiyle başlaması ve Raven'a "ev" i döndüğü zaman bitmesidir.

You're never too cool for Douglas Adams.

This book deserves its shortlisting for the Orange Prize for Fiction. One of the most interesting things about the book is that the end of the story is told first. I was sure that would make me lose interest but it did just the opposite, making me more curious as to how it could arrive at the ending I already knew. This is the story of Trinidad in the second half of the twentieth century through the eyes of an foreign born couple, French Sabine and her English husband, George. They differ on their view of the country and handle themselves in ways that reflect their feelings to make a heart-wrenching plot. Monique Roffey’s rich and evocative prose tell a gruesome tale about the dark, violent side of a country in turmoil. This is a powerful, complex story worthy of its award.

The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher was a very detailed and fascinating look into a particularly gruesome murder (at least, for its time) in Victorian London. Summerscale does a really good job of pacing the book just like your typical mystery book might be paced. And the fact that nothing contained within is fiction, is all the more impressive. She also interweaves discussions on how this particular murder and its main detective, Mr. Whicher, went on to inspire nearly all future detective fiction, as well as how the general public perceived detectives and detection work in general. All in all, a great read for anyone wanting to gain more insight into the period, detective work in its infancy, or for anyone who wants a good old fashioned murder mystery. True murder mystery, that is.
