This book was a real page-turner. There's quite a bit of suspense in addition to an exploration of familial and cultural conflicts. The Cevennes area might seem a little less idyllic...You whiz through it at breakneck speed. Great for waiting rooms or airplanes or high-stress periods. I admire Tremain very much and have read all her books. This wasn't, alas, my favorite. I preferred The Road Home and Music and Silence.
