** spoiler alert ** ** 3.75 Stars ** I feel like I had to force myself to finish the first book of this season. The 2nd book didn't have me engrossed but I still skimmed occasionally. So let's talk characters. Merit is making leaps and bounds as a heroine my eyes. She repeatedly is proving her loyalty to her house and master. She moves into Cadogan House, which means less Mallory in this book. We start to see a little more depth to her character. She's sort of socially introverted and would rather spend her time in Cadogan's library until Ethan forces her socializing. We learn that her change was different. That she feels like her as a person is a separate entity than her vampire. She's kept her vampire in check 99.9% of the time. But she knows somethings wrong. Mallory is what I don't necessarily understand in this book. They are BFF's right? I felt like Mallory was being over dramatic about the changes in her and Merit's life. She was down right hostile sometimes and towards the end of the book made a vague comment along the lines of: we're both changing. we might not like each other anymore. WTF? Honestly, I didn't like Mallory here. Merit's human life was taken from her. Mallory found out she had magic.... I'm not seeing Mallory's life change as hard as Merit's, yet Mallory remains dramatic. Merit enters the social structure she's tried to avoid her whole life with the Merit family. She learns an ex and family friends are actually shifters. The plot has our favorite baddie Celina back in the scene. Celina is hardly in the book but the plot centers around her quest to have vampires be the top and not hide it anymore. Morgan has taken head of Navarre, yet apparently he isn't enough for Merit. This has made me honestly sad. I like him. He's hot, funny, and sweet. But we're stuck in the will they won't they limbo that is Ethan and Merit. VERY FRUSTRATING! Sometimes I feel so tense for Merit's lack of romantic action that I feel like I need to get some action to alleviate my own tension! Sooo long story short: Good read, not amazing. My husband has benefited from the tension Merit's love life gives me! Onto Twice Bitten....
