ah, pippi. i used to love her movies and now i finally know, at the ripe old age of 29, why my sister and i used to play "don't touch the ground". pippi is the imaginary bad friend every kid has. there are no repercussions for her behavior, and she's delightful, in her own awkwardly-translated-from-Swedish way.

I really liked this book set around the time of WWI. It is about different families during this time period and how their lives are affected by where they live, their social class, and the people they interact with. There is a family from England, from Wales, from Russia, and from the U.S. This is the first book in a triology, the subsequent books will follow the descendents of the characters. Being a historian I loved learning more history from this era. There were times when it became a little tedious when the author was describing battlefied positions and strategies, however there isn't too much of it. I really loved some of the characters (Maud, Ethel, Gus, Billy), and I really hated other ones. It does have some pretty graphic parts, so be aware!
