This was a fairly enjoyable and interesting book. Lewis went into a lot of detail describing the scenery and creatures on the planet Malacandra which takes up a lot of pages. The characters are interesting but not very developed. In the way of conversation, much of it is monologuing by the main character, Ransom. For it's shortish length, there are a plenty of curse words (16 in total), mainly in the beginning, a few hints at sexual immorality (though nothing but brief comments, nor graphic), and Evolution is portrayed as fact in a number of passages. I enjoyed the angelic eldila and loyal hrossa.

More proof that Anne Carson can see the divine wherever she chooses ("Emily knew how to hang her puppies"), though so far limited proof of the divine itself. This is part of my "books are better read late" series of high-school reads, though if I had known the Kate Bush song then there probably wouldn't have been a problem.

This book was light and mostly filled of "fluff". Typical superficial teen romance of silly girl obsession with an gorgeous yet mysterious boy. Normally I wouldn't mind that so much if it was backed up by a strong backbone of story line or history. I'll continue to read the series. But I must say, I'm a bit bored with it already.
