The first book I've read by the legendary Marquez, and the first Latin American novel I've read as well. It's good, interesting, and captivating. The ending, however, is the best part. Thankfully, at just over 100 pages, it doesn't take too long to get there.

An understatement it is, to say that I loved the story. I was hugging the book and rereading passages at the wee hours of the morning fantasizing about "what-ifs" and "could-have-beens"... I never really saw 'that' ending coming... but nevertheless, this book made me cry with all the sweet letters and the conversations that made every hopeless romantic girl wish about her own chance of true love... minus the ending... (spoiler, spoiler, spoiler...)>>>I am never going to be the person who'll spill the beans to those who haven't read... =p

Really no sequel to a masterpiece such as Gone With The Wind will ever live up to the first. I wonder how well this book would have been recieved had it been Margaret Mitchell herself who authored it. Could even she had continued the story of Scarlett with the same passion and voice as she portrayed her in GWTW? I remember reading this book back when it forst came out. I liked it okay but in no way did it draw me like GWTW did. And it is rather telling that I have GWTW sitting on my bookshelves but Scarlett is long gone - in a Goodwill, a Used Book Store, or in the hands of some stranger to me.
