I saw this book advertised on Kindle and figured , what the hell, for the price , I'll give it a chance.WOW, I could not put the book down!!!!!!!!! Start to finish two days. Mr Carver is a talent in a sea of wanna-bees! I want more from this author and, will pay top dollar to read his work.Look out Patterson, Chris Carter is nipping on your royalties. This book was a beautiful and touching exploration of women in historic China. (I would give a year or an era, but I'm not exactly sure). It's extremely unique in the way that it's written in that there are no true male characters. Of course, there are men, in the forms of husbands, fathers, brothers and suns, but very few of these are given much of an identity and they're mainly treated like inexplicable forces of nature to be dealt with. This makes for a very rare book, an exploration of the importance of women in women's lives. It's a treatise on sisterhood, forgiveness, kindness, and demonstration of love. These themes are handled so delicately that they never become maudlin. The book is finely drawn, absorbing and a wonderful read.
